Dental Bridges are a great option for replacing missing teeth. A tooth bridge is a viable option only if there are teeth next to the missing tooth/space on both sides. It is important for the adjacent teeth(anchor teeth) to be strong and healthy because they will provide support and stability for the missing teeth. In order to prepare a patient for a bridge, the dentist will prepare the anchor teeth for crowns. A pontic (fake tooth) will be attached to the supporting teeth crowns and cemented on to the teeth next to the missing space.
Once you have a bridge, at-home care and routine cleanings become more important than ever. Special techniques are used to clean underneath bridges that will prevent future decay and provide longevity and health for the supporting teeth as well as the bridge. Your hygienist or dentist will be happy to show you this technique at you cleaning appointments
